While in Hamburg I went to a small ice cream shop with my cousin Lisa. When he heard us speaking in English with each other he asked where I was from. When I told him the US, he got really excited and asked me if I wanted to know why that was such a good thing. Being curious, I asked why. His son, it turns out, is a programmer for Yahoo, living in California. When he asked me what I was doing in Germany, I told him I'd be studying in Kassel, which again resulted in cheers from him. Why? He too had once studied in Kassel. The world, you see, is so small. :)

Oh the random things in my day: The DHL guy delivered my internet box yesterday, thus me engaging in small talk with him and he knows 1. I speak German (which living in a building with all international students isn't a guaranteed thing) and 2. I'm home at this time of day, typically. Today I get a buzz from downstairs that there's a package for another person in the building, if I could sign for it and get it to them. Naturally, being a good neighbor, I agree. What I didn't expect is what it was... Interesting.

Sitting in my first lecture, someone brought their dog with them. Apparently this wasn't anything of abnormal to most people, one girl explained there was a lab in her last class. Interesting.

I got the biggest Überraschungseier ("Surprise Egg") I've seen and put it together! Enjoy!

*****************************************************************************Berlin: I meet a man, middle 50s at a UBahn station. He asks, "Do you speak English?" My response, "In fact, I do.. just a little!" So I help him figure out what route he needs to take to get to his stop and then we exchange the typical 2 Americans in Berlin chit-chat.. Where are you from?/What are you doing here?/Do you speak German?/Enjoying yourself? ...and then I find out, he's from LA, working on a movie- prepping locations in both Berlin and in Moscow. This is when I say, "SO.. is this a moment that I'm from small town Michigan and have no clue who you are or what movie you're working on, but I probably should?"
All he does is give me a wink, shoulder shrug, and wishes me well as I'm getting off the train!
WHO DID I MEET?! .... I still don't know!
